Welcome back! Hope you all are feeling rejuvenated and energized after this needed spring break. We’re back at school and ready to go out with a bang! You’ve all been waiting for Cal Day and what better way to end it than with an awesome concert? That’s right, this Cal Day The Marías will bring silky sunny vibes to YOU on Memorial Glade.
Formed in Los Angeles in late 2016, The Marías are a psychedelic soul group with a vintage twist. A smooth rendezvous of jazz percussion, hypnotic guitar riffs, smoke-velvet vocals and nostalgic horn solos, there’s something undeniably sensual in the group’s dreamlike fusion of jazz, psychedelia, funk and lounge. As they take to the stage, dressed like a dream from another era – it’s clear why fans cheekily compare their sound to ‘having sex in the 70s’ or like ‘pouring cream into coffee.’
Opening for The Marias is Los Angeles based singer Mereba, a singer, songwriter, and producer who can rap and play guitar. She made her first debut in 2013 with her self released Room for Living EP and has worked with some of hip hop’s greats such as 9th Wonder. Mereba is bringing a fresh new sound to the R&B scene. Her unique blend of r&b, folk, and hip-hop is opening space for this storyteller and we’ll definitely be seeing more of her in the near future.
On this Cal Day, bring out your blankets, snacks, and sunscreen and get ready to be taken over by a sultry tranquility as you drift into a timeless space.
